Here's how to plan your visit to Park Guell in Barcelona

Park Guell in Barcelona is a must for your bucket list

Have you been to Park Guell? If you’re in Barcelona it would be tragic to miss seeing this sight.

Here are 6 things to know as you plan your visit:

WHAT IS PARK GUELL

Park Guell is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Barcelona that was designed by Antoni Gaudi. It was originally a commercially unsuccessful housing site and became a park in 1926. Fun fact: Because ll is pronounced like y in Spanish, Park Guell is pronounced Park “Gway.”

DISTANCE FROM CITY CENTRE

It’s about 4.5 km from La Rambla and very walkable as it’s a mostly flat walk except at the end. It’s also easily accessible by metro and bus. I walked there from my La Rambla hotel and bused back.

BUY ADVANCE TIX

Don’t make my mistake — buy ahead! When my husband and I got to the park at 4:30 p.m., it was of course sold out for the day. But even worse, it was sold out for the next day also, and that was going to be our last day in Barcelona. Then by utter serendipity, we got in! But I’ll save that story for another day. Tickets for Park Guell and Sagrada Familia can be bought together for a reduced price.

HOURS & PRICES

The park is open every day, all year, but check the hours as those can change. Tickets have time slots; after 30 minutes your ticket is no good. You can stay as long as you like after you get in. Tickets are 10 euros for adults, and 7 euros for kids aged 7-12.

HOW LONG DO I NEED HERE?

Allow between 90 minutes and two hours. Put on good walking shoes to navigate the cobblestones and uneven stairs.

BEST VIEW

The iconic Park Guell view that can be seen all over Instagram — including in this reel — is at Nature Square, at the end of your route through the park. You need to watch the sun set over Barcelona from here!
